The science vessel Demeter is in orbit of Balkos III and have requested the Enterprise’s help. A strange power source is operating on the planet and the ship was subjected to a high power scan. The problem is that the Balkosians are a race of people just entering the stone age so who, or what, was able to scan the Demeter?
Kirk, Spock & McCoy head to the planet’s surface and find that things are not what they seem. Can they track down who is operating in secret on Balkos III and what their plans are? Or will the Balkosians remain subjects of a strange experiment?
